Updates for September 2004

« August 2004 | | October 2004 »

Listen Up

09.30.2004 @ 02:48 PM PT | Chris Pirillo

Super cool news - we’re gonna be streaming some man-on-the-street styled interviews tonight! Just keep an ear on the live stream. Hear attendees, presenters, partners, and maybe even a few Independent candidates. Yep, we’ve got a few A-list bloggers covering the first debate on our conference floor in a few hours. Awesome!

Wi-Fi Flying

09.29.2004 @ 11:08 PM PT | Chris Pirillo

I’ve received word that wireless access should be granted for everybody by 3PM tomorrow on the second floor of Harrah’s. A few of us have already started to gather “informally” in the Starbucks area, although it’s not free here. Keep your eye on this Feedster link to see what’s happening with the attendees in semi-real time.

Put The Schedule in Outlook

09.28.2004 @ 11:31 PM PT | Chris Pirillo

Via Gnomedexer Myk O’Leary: “I was getting ready for Gnomedex and being the schedule geek that I am, I put every item on the current schedule in Outlook so I could sync it to my Pocket PC. For those who want to do this but are too lazy, you can pick up a copy of a PST that has just the Gnomedex 2004 events in it. It should be compatible with Outlook 97+ even though I created it in Office Professional 2003.” Amazing! Has anybody done it at RSSCalendar.com?

Meeting Guy Malachi

09.26.2004 @ 06:41 PM PT | Chris Pirillo

I received an e-mail this morning, and I just had to share it with you. Guy Malachi has the honor of being the person who is traveling the farthest to attend Gnomedex: “I don’t know if you remember me but I’ve been a Gnomie since 1998. We’ve exchanged emails on several occasions (for example regarding TechTV in Israel, if you remember, and I was also one of the winners of the caption Jake’s hairdo Cafepress thingy). Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I’ll finally be able to make it to Gnomedex! After three years of ‘watching’ it from afar here in Israel (knowing it was WAY too expensive for me to be able to afford the trip over), this year I was able to convince my boss to send me over (mainly in order to meet and learn from Internet entrepreneurs). I’m really looking forward to finally meeting you and other fellow Gnomies.”

Streaming Geeks

09.26.2004 @ 01:17 PM PT | Chris Pirillo

Let’s say you want to avoid getting free stuff and meeting industry leaders in person. Let’s say the exotic Lake Tahoe sounds boring to you. Let’s say you hate networking events where you have an opportunity to advance your personal or professional life. If any of the above rings true for you, then you’ll be happy to know that IT Conversations will be streaming the audio of live (mainstage) events. While it won’t come close to capturing the true energy of the actual conference, it’s the next best thing. Watch this link for further developments!

Yahoo!

09.20.2004 @ 05:05 PM PT | Chris Pirillo

Brought to you by Yahoo!

This year, we are proud to announce that Yahoo! is our banner sponsor for 2004 - they’re helping make the entire weekend event possible! You’ve probably already heard of these guys, but I bet you don’t know what they’ve been working on behind-the-scenes. With any luck, we’ll all get a sneak peek at Gnomedex!

Win Prizes All Evening Long

09.10.2004 @ 01:44 PM PT | Chris Pirillo

Starting at 7:00pm on Friday, we’ll hold our first raffle of awesome prizes. Stay tuned for raffles throughout the evening performance, with great prizes including tiny x86 EPIA Mini-ITX mainboards from VIA for building your own cool digital entertainment systems, high-end audio cards from leading suppliers, special web authoring software from Adobe Systems, cool keycaps for gamers, CPUs from AMD, Techie Toyz from Mad Dog Multimedia and more. You must be present to win!

Real-time Recording Session!

09.10.2004 @ 01:43 PM PT | Chris Pirillo

Come hear one fabulous band and get a free CD! Join us Friday, October 1, from 7:30 - 10:00 at the Sand Harbor Ballroom at Harrah’s, where the Silicon Valley Houserockers will rock your socks off.

This performance will be recorded live using an Ego Systems Soundcard featuring the VIA Envy24 Audio Controller on a K8T800 Pro Falcon Northwest system incorporating the latest technologies from AMD and VIA. Engineered and produced by Elric Phares, Editor in Chief of Motherboards.org, and executive producer Jim Louderback, Vice President and Editor In Chief of Ziff Davis Media Internet, this real-time digital recording session and CD is a superb example of field digital recording.

Attendees can collect their free CD right after Woz’s speech on Saturday, courtesy of VIA.

Staaaaaaaaaampeeeeeeede!

09.09.2004 @ 04:17 PM PT | Chris Pirillo

The second Gnomedex promotional video has been posted. If someone wants to seed ‘em on BitTorrent, be my guest.

The Band Played On

09.07.2004 @ 10:01 AM PT | Chris Pirillo

Who are these guys? “The Silicon Valley Houserockers are a rock and roll band out of Los Gatos, CA that plays the greatest rock & roll songs ever recorded. With a wailing 5 piece horn section and rock solid rhythm section of 2 guitars, bass, drums and keys, we bring the timeless rock and roll classics to life.” If you look at their calendar, Gnomedex is the “Private Event” at the beginning of October. Isn’t that special?

Happy Fun Promo, Part I

09.03.2004 @ 04:43 PM PT | Chris Pirillo

The first (of three) Geeks Gone Wild videos has been posted for all the world to enjoy. We’re less than a month away from the big event(s), so… I wouldn’t suggest putting off registration for too much longer. If these videos offend, then perhaps you’re not too proud of being a geek? If you can’t make fun of yourself, then… who can you make fun of? That’s right - Chris Pirillo.

Frog Bog, River Raid, Gnomedex

09.03.2004 @ 04:34 PM PT | Chris Pirillo

I received word this morning that Ross Mayfield wouldn’t be able to attend Gnomdex this year (due to a scheduling conflict). However, in his stead, he’s introduced me to a Blue Sky Ranger: Peter Kaminski. The name sounded awfully familiar, and after exchanging a few e-mails with the legend, I discovered that he created… well, here’s what he told me: “Frog Bog, River Raid. An unfinished demo called Air Strike, and some Keyboard Component stuff (it was fun writing code that coordinated between the 1610 and the 6502 in the two units). Then C64 and Amiga stuff for Activision, and Amiga stuff for Cinemaware.” Holy schneikies. I used to play Frog Bog ALL the time!
