The Sundance Dramatic Grand Jury Prize was presented to Primer, directed, written, and produced by Shane Carruth. And, they’re presenting a special screening of this award-winning film at Gnomedex. “At night and on weekends, four men in a suburban garage have built a cottage industry of error-checking devices. But, they know that there is something more. There is some idea, some mechanism, some accidental side effect that is standing between them and a pure leap of innovation. And so, through trial and error they are building the device that is missing most.”

For some reason, Doc’s inbox doesn’t like me. I’ve been sending him invitations to moderate our Security panel, but each time I ask, he doesn’t respond for a couple of weeks - until I ask him if he got the last message, to which he responds that the message (sent in ASCII) was blank. Well, here we go again. If he’s egosurfing, he’ll catch this public invitation. I’d send a TrackBack, but neither of his blogs support it. We’ll see just how long it takes for him to notice this entry?

We’ve officially established a partnership with our friends at Google! Plus, we have four new media partnerships to announce: DecisionCast, IT Conversations, EBIG, and SDForum. New participants include Dan Appleman (founder of Apress), Jason Calacanis (from Weblogs Inc.), and Gokul Rajaram from Google’s AdSense division. This is quickly becoming an event you really don’t wanna miss! Please, if you know of any other organization who would like to be officially involved with Gnomedex in one way or another, let us know as soon as humanly possible. Tahoe will never know what hit it.
Keep spreading the word!

From Gnomedex Panelist Ken Layne: “The schedule looks good. I can’t remember the last time I actually planned on going to all the panels at a conference. Never, I think. Having four good & relevant ones stacked with interesting people… it’s a magic formula! One little suggestion is you might want to tell people to bring chains if they’re driving from NorCal or beyond. Snow is unlikely before Oct. 15, but I’ve also gotten stuck w/o chains up there in the first week of October. And then you have to pay some jackass $100 for chains, if he even has your tire size.”

From Gnomedexer Cody Reeves: “This is pasted from Southwest Airlines with a 21 day advanced: $54 one-way, to/from Boise, ID; $68 one-way, to/from Los Angeles, CA; $99 one-way, to/from Norfolk, VA/Southern Virginia.” Thanks, Cody!

Yes, each room has at least one bed, one sink, and… just take a look for yourself. The nightstands are absolutely breathtaking!!!

“Just a note to let you know I’m looking forward to Gnomedex 4 at the end of September. As Chris Stansbury said, airfare is really good right now. I found $218.00 round trip non-stop from Chicago on American. Can not beat that with a stick. Your lineup is shaping up well, I’m looking forward to a standup conference rather than a fall down one, if you get my drift.”

“Computer Power User is a monthly print publication aimed at people who know that technology rocks. The kind of person who gets his kicks upgrading graphics cards and smashing benchmarks. The type of person who reinstalls Windows at 2 a.m. on a Saturday because his system keeps crashing while he’s ripping MP3s. Or the person who repartitions his drive to create a dual-boot system and install Linux so he can learn more about how the OS works.”

“CeBit America 2005 has been canceled because organizers have been unable to raise enough money from technology companies to hold the New York trade show, a spokesman said Tuesday.” And yet, Gnomedex marches on.

We are now actively accepting submissions for participants in the Future of Security panel. Computer, Internet, Digital - if they’re not secure today, will they ever be?
